The Cabildo of Lanzarote has announced that one of the objectives of its Government group is to continue promoting the economy and employment, so it is convinced that the landing on the island of the Spanish Super Rally Championship, known as SuperCER, "would be an opportunity that we should not miss," said the president of the Cabildo, Oswaldo Betancort, this Friday.
The island's leader spoke during the meeting he held at the island's headquarters with the president of the Royal Spanish Automobile Federation (RFEDA) and vice president of the International Automobile Federation (FIA), Manuel Aviñó, whom he invited to introduce the Isla de los Volcanes Rally in the S-CER calendar. During the meeting, which Aviñó attended together with the presidents of the Canarian Automobile Federation and CD Evesport, Miguel Ángel Domínguez and José Víctor Rodríguez, respectively, this possibility of Lanzarote being the venue for the Spanish Super Rally Championship was approached with optimism, "great news for the world of motorsports on the island", Betancort added.
The president of the Cabildo recalled that the S-CER is the recognized national mixed rally event par excellence, which brings together asphalt and gravel events so that the most multidisciplinary drivers can triumph.
For his part, the president of the RFEDA and vice president of the FIA, Manuel Aviñó, pointed to the "many possibilities" that the island has to enter the S-CER 2025, and thanked the Cabildo of Lanzarote for the "predisposition" to collaborate in the proposals that arise from the federative entity, "projects that continue to maintain Lanzarote as a spearhead in the organization of automotive events," he says.
On the other hand, the attendees specified their joint willingness to organize a state seminar aimed at the Permanent Officials of the RFDEA during the next month of February, an event where the participation of dozens of elite technicians from all over Spain is expected.
A new edition of the Isla de los Volcanes
This meeting of Oswaldo Betancort took place on the eve of the celebration during this weekend of the XXVI Isla de los Volcanes Gravel Rally, a scoring event for the Spanish Gravel Rally Championship. "This massive event, which is already a tradition on our island, not only puts our beautiful natural environment on the map, but also highlights the sporting spirit and passion for motorsports that we share," says the president.
The island's leader thanked all those who make this event possible. "To the organizers, sponsors, volunteers and, of course, to the competitors, from whom we must highlight their effort and dedication, fundamental for the success of this competition... As president of the Cabildo, I am very clear that we must go much further and open new doors to the world of motorsports in Lanzarote," he stressed.
Finally, the Cabildo of Lanzarote invites the entire population, as well as the many visitors who use this spectacular event as an "excuse" to visit us, to enjoy the motorsports festival starring, this time, by more than fifty teams.
