The adventurers José Manuel Galán and Baudilio Rodríguez are traveling to the island of La Palma this coming weekend. The Lanzarote natives will participate in the first edition of the Transvulcania 2009, a hiking adventure that will cover a good part of the geography of La Palma. A demanding test that they will try to finish.
Galán and Baudilio will participate on July 25 in the 1st Mountain and Hiking Ultramarathon of Isla de La Palma and they do so as members of the Lanzaventura 4x4 club of Lanzarote. The test will have a route of 83 kilometers and the participants have 18 hours to finish the adventure.
The two intrepid adventurers have been preparing for months to participate in this test and for this they have traveled the trails of Lanzarote. As a joke, Galán and Baudilio comment that the economic crisis has made them change the sea and the engine for the mountain and the feet. Both have shared other adventures, such as joining the seven islands by sea.
The 1st Mountain and Hiking Ultramarathon of Isla de La Palma is based on a very demanding route of just over 83 kilometers and 8,5000 meters of accumulated elevation gain. The route will take place on 97% of the trails signposted and approved by the European Hiking and Mountain Federation, which will take runners through almost all the ecosystems of the geography of La Palma.
José Manuel Galán has experience in this type of adventure, participating in the Marathon of the Sands in the Moroccan desert. Galán's experience is joined in this case by the first experience for Baudilio Rodríguez in a test of this type.
The first edition of the Transvulcania 2009 will have the participation of 321 runners. José Manuel Galán and Baudilio Rodríguez set themselves the goal of finishing the La Palma test.
