The weekend opened on Friday with training races and later the talk given by Torben Grael, skipper of the Ericsson Racing Team, about the preparation for the next round the world in the Volvo Ocean Race.
The first races were held on Saturday with conditions of between 15 and 18 knots and a fairly open race course. The continuous shifts required a lot of concentration from the crews, as there was no clear side. The first race was won by the boat J.J.Palmensis with a large advantage over the rest of the fleet. The second race was won again by Gustavo Martínez.
After the dispute of two races, the race committee decided not to do a third, so Gustavo Martínez clearly led the trophy with two firsts, followed by the Rade optical center with a second and a sixth and the Ferrer Casual Wear with a seventh and a second place.
On Sunday at 11:15 the third race of the trophy began. The conditions at the beginning were around 12 knots but as the day progressed the wind increased in intensity to 20-22 knots and was turning to the left. The race course was, like on Saturday, very open, which led to very beautiful races with the fleet very compact, and continuous changes in the classification.
The first race was won by Nano Negrin's Brues y Fernández boat, followed by Alejandro Morales' Ikos and Gustavo Martínez's JJ Palmensis. The second race was won by the J.J. Palmensis and the third by the Brues y Fernández.
With these partial results, the champion of the II Marina Rubicón Nautical Days trophy was Gustavo Martínez's J.J. Palmensis boat, followed by Nano Negrin's Brues y Fernández and in third place Leonardo Armas' Centro Óptico Rade. In group B, Paco Curbelo won with the Altamar III, followed by Wes Lunday's Catlanza and Rafael Barbadillo's Rotini.
Next weekend the Days will conclude with the celebration of the Canary Islands Laser Class Championship and the radio-controlled boat race.
