The Snipe World Championship, held in Argentina, experienced five intense days of regattas in the bay of Buenos Aires, which included the participation of five teams from the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife. Alfredo González and Cristian Sánchez defended the title of champions won two years ago in Portugal, and once again came close to the podium, closing their participation with a more than meritorious fourth position. The rest of the club's members shone brightly, fighting for the top positions in each of the regattas.
The week of competition in the Snipe World Championship was quite complicated due to the changes in wind direction. The first day had to be canceled due to lack of wind, and from that moment on, 8 races were held. Once the seventh regatta, held on Saturday morning, was completed, the sailors were able to discard the worst result added up to that moment and there were major changes in the general classification.
Alfredo González and Cristian Sánchez did not start the Snipe World Championship well, adding a 46th place in the first regatta, which would later be the result they could discard. From that moment on, they climbed positions in the classification, adding a second place in the fourth regatta. They started the final day with a third place in the first regatta of the day, provisionally placing themselves on the podium. In the last regatta, they entered in 15th place at the finish line, a result that finally placed them in fourth position overall.
Leonardo Armas “Nete” and Miguel Bethencourt finished the Snipe World Championship in 38th place, although they could not compete in the last day of regattas as they were previously sanctioned with two black flags. They started the competition with a sixth place, but were disqualified in the second regatta for being out of line. The sailors from the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife even managed to win the third regatta, taking a lot of risks in each of the starts to be as high as possible in the competition.
Miguel Ángel Lasso and Tomás Fuentes had a great Snipe World Championship, finishing the competition in 40th place overall. In most of the regattas, they were in the middle of the fleet, achieving second place in the sixth regatta of the competition, which allowed them to advance many positions in the general classification.
The participation of the sailors from the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife in the Snipe World Championship was completed with the 57th place achieved by Miguel Ángel Naverán and Luis Hernández, and the team formed by Pedro Ferrer and Yaimur Hernández finished in 71st place overall.
