The twenty-third edition of the La Bocaina International Crossing concluded on a high note with the swimmers from the Nadamas Swimming Club of Lanzarote occupying the top positions in the general classification as the main protagonists of the event, after the quartet formed by Kennedy Hope Denby, Andreu Jaén, Juan José Armas, and Gustavo Lorenzo reached the coast of Fuerteventura, sharing victory with a time of 4:22:56 hours. Playa Dorada, in the tourist town of Playa Blanca, in the south of Lanzarote, was once again the starting point for the brave swimmers who aimed to cross the finish line located in the Port of Corralejo, Fuerteventura.
The competition once again enjoyed great reception, which has made it a benchmark open water event both nationally and internationally, with numerous nationalities represented, including Germans, English, French, Italians, Dutch, Irish, Swiss, and even Australians.
At 7:45 a.m., the starting gun fired for the swimmers in the slow group, who nervously and excitedly took the first strokes of the day, leaving Playa Dorada behind. Fifteen minutes later, it was the turn of the swimmers in the middle group, who were also sent off with words of encouragement and applause. At 8:15 a.m., the swimmers in the fast group set off, eager to devour the 15 km that separate Lanzarote from Fuerteventura. The 5 swimmers in the challenge category also started together with the groups to begin their particular challenge.
The good weather accompanied the swimmers throughout the course, and at the refreshment stops, there were only words of encouragement and smiles that reflected the happy day these intrepid athletes were sharing in the waters of the Atlantic. The kayakers from Club Marlines, REN, Red Cross, and several private boats provided support and security throughout the event, as did entities equally committed to the Crossing, such as the Yaiza Civil Protection Group and the Lanzarote Security and Emergency Consortium.
Back in Corralejo, the faces of satisfaction were more than evident, adding to this sporting celebration fans, family members, and companions of the swimmers who also wanted to share that moment, serving to further expand that great atmosphere so characteristic of this event.
It was there that the grand finale took place, without incidents, to a XXIII La Bocaina Lanzarote - Fuerteventura International Crossing that maintained the atmosphere of camaraderie at all times and put the icing on the cake at its awards ceremony. The Councilor for Sports of La Oliva, Gleiber Carreño, was in charge of presenting the awards to the first classified. To close the day, a fraternal lunch was offered thanks to the collaboration of the Secrets Bahía Real Resort & Spa hotel.
