The Titerroy Municipal Pavilion experienced the women's handball festival on Saturday afternoon, with the derby between CICAR Lanzarote Ciudad de Arrecife and CB Zonzamas Plus Car Lanzarote, the top two classified in the Women's Gold Honor Division. The superb second half starring the players of San José Obrero decided the derby in their favor, and ended up winning by a clear and resounding 28 to 20.
The equality was maximum from the beginning of the match, with the defenses of both teams being safe against the attacks. The first three goals of CICAR Lanzarote Ciudad de Arrecife came from the seven-meter line, being scored by Gema Trujillo. Two penetrations by Brenda Roger and a seven-meter shot by Gleinys Reyes maintained the equality.
Zonzamas Plus Car Lanzarote took the lead for the first time with a goal from Brenda Roger, with Melania Cabrera responding with two goals to return the initiative on the scoreboard to CICAR Lanzarote Ciudad de Arrecife after passing the halfway point of the first half (5-4). An equality that was maintained until the break, reaching the end of the first 30 minutes of play with a 11-11 draw on the scoreboard.
The beginning of the second half was key to the development of the match. With an impregnable 5:1 defense and the goals of Melania Cabrera, Miriam Páez and Beatriz Masseu (2), CICAR Lanzarote Ciudad de Arrecife gave its rival a 4-0 run in the first five minutes. Zonzamas took about six minutes to pierce the goal defended by Ana Marín, with Gleinys Reyes scoring a seven-meter shot.
CICAR Lanzarote Ciudad de Arrecife began to put land in between, and a new 3-0 run put the lead at five goals, having to request a timeout from the visiting coach (19-14). After the instructions from the bench, Gema Trujillo scored again for the locals, increasing the lead to six goals (20-14).
The players of CICAR Lanzarote Ciudad de Arrecife were very confident in each of the defensive actions, preventing Zonzamas from getting closer on the scoreboard, and seeing how the minutes passed little by little. With four minutes left until the end, the goals of Miriam Páez, Thalyta Almeida and Celia López increased the difference to eight goals (26-18), leaving the match ready for the sentence.
With the score of 28 to 20, the match came to an end, with CICAR Lanzarote Ciudad de Arrecife adding a resounding victory in the derby and clearly defeating the leader. The stumbles of Lobas Global Atac Oviedo and Vino Doña Berenguela Balonmano Bolaños, allows San José Obrero to maintain the second position and depend on itself to achieve the promotion of category.
