CB Lanzarote Puerto del Carmen was defeated this Sunday at the Numancia Municipal Pavilion in Santander against Atlántico Pereda (25-24) in a match corresponding to matchday 18 of Group B of the Women's Silver Division of Honor. It is the first defeat of the Lanzarote team in the entire season.
The defeat of the 'conejera' team took time to materialize on the scoreboard, because although the locals distanced themselves at the beginning of the match, from the twentieth minute the scores were tied and not only did the two teams alternate on the scoreboard in a more than disputed match, but the 'conejeras' were able to tie a few seconds from the end but the post of the Santander goal prevented it to the joy of the locals.
In the offensive work, the work of Rosa Álvarez and Famara Fernández stood out with six goals each. Among the local players, up to three players scored six goals each, Sheila Enid Hiraldo, Ana Barquín and Belén Sáez.
Despite the defeat, CB Lanzarote Puerto del Carmen maintains the lead of Group B of the Women's Silver Division of Honor with 34 points and seventeen victories after eighteen matches played, followed with 31 points by Logroño Sporting La Rioja and Atlántico Pereda, the latter causing the only defeat of the 'conejeras' this season.
The coach of the 'conejera' team, Miguel Ángel Lemes, described the match after the defeat as a "complicated match beforehand, which was further complicated by the illness of two players at the last minute. Very disputed match, with alternations on the scoreboard, where we were able to cut the initial advantage of Pereda thanks to the open defense we made. The second half followed the same tone. They with a very hard defense, to the limit or exceeding the regulations, which was difficult for us to overcome, and we risking in defense to be able to cut balls and counterattack".
Lemes lamented the bad luck in the last moments of the match but was convinced that the team will continue at a good level: "In the end we were able to tie but the final shot went to the post. First defeat of the season, which hurts us but will make us grow. That's for sure. Faced with many adversities we have been about to win on a very complicated court. Now we just have to think about Betionak, next Saturday and recover the path of victories. I think it has been a good match on our part. I am happy with the work but bad with the result", concluded Miguel Ángel Lemes.
