CB Lanzarote Puerto del Carmen falls to Beti-Onak's permitted hardness (27-28)

The start of the year is getting complicated for CB Lanzarote Puerto del Carmen. After more than half a season undefeated, their last two games have been defeats.

CB Lanzarote Puerto del Carmen falls to the permitted harshness of Beti-Onak (27-28)

The conejero team was defeated this Saturday in the Municipal Pavilion of Tías (27-28) against Gurpea Beti-Onak in a match corresponding to matchday 19 of Group B of the Women's Silver Honor Division.

The yellows are going through a small desert as they have suffered two consecutive defeats after sixteen games without losing. Doubts seem to be accumulating in a team used to winning, which is compounded by the physical condition of many players in the days leading up to the match, as well as the performance of the visiting goalkeepers and the referees.

CB Lanzarote Puerto del Carmen started the match with problems. A hesitant local defense was joined by a lack of accuracy in front of goal (only Luci Betancort and Suely Pinto did some damage on the wings) and a certain effectiveness of the Basque attack that led them to lead the score until the end of the first half (min. 25, 14-14). Adjusting the defense and increasing the percentage of shots, the locals reached halftime hopeful (17-16) but it was only a mirage because at the beginning of the second half the doubts returned and Beti-Onak reached a three-goal difference that, after much rowing during the second half, became insurmountable for the conejeras.

In the second half, the doubts in the local game were confirmed, unable to cope with the hardness shown in some phases of the match by the Basque defense and the arbitral permissiveness, indolent during most of the match.

In the offensive work, Suely Pinto Spencer stood out with seven goals and Rosa Álvarez with five goals. Among the visiting players, Garazi Larumbe stood out with eight goals scored.

Despite the defeat, CB Lanzarote Puerto del Carmen maintains the lead of Group B of the Women's Silver Honor Division with 34 points and seventeen victories after nineteen matches played, followed by Logroño Sporting La Rioja.

The coach of the conejero team, Miguel Ángel Lemes, clearly annoyed with the arbitral performance, clarified that it had been "an atypical week, we have not trained anything due to illnesses, obviously at the level of effort we were not well, very little training, girls still have fever, to cope, start from scratch, we are still leaders but only one point away and still the light that goes ahead is the one that illuminates".

Lemes confirmed that the team was not "good defensively in any type of system, we were six zero, three two one, three three, and we were not good, they gained a lot of confidence, the forces were flagging then they defended very well, they were allowed everything and that's it, to train more and to consider that we have to start being a tough team because otherwise we can't do anything".

Regarding the lack of offensive effectiveness of CB Lanzarote Puerto del Carmen, Lemes recalled that the goalkeepers of Beti-Onak, "the two goalkeepers, one is in the Spanish youth team and the other in the Chilean national team, we lacked confidence when shooting, we were not very fine, a game to forget as soon as possible and to continue working from Monday because now the situation is complicated for us".

Regarding the refereeing, the coach declared that "we are being the fools, we have come from Cantabria where they inflated us with cakes, today they come here at home and they inflate us with cakes the same. In the end they kick a girl out, in an action that they have allowed during the match ten thousand equal actions and in the end they kick a girl out when we are losing by two with five seconds left and either you eat it or you whistle the whole match the same. What cannot be is that every time handball is getting tougher and the referees allow it, then we ruin handball, risk of injuries. Well, we will have to start training with clean slaps, if it is being allowed then we are going to make a dirty team, because we come from two matches with a lot of defensive hardness where everything has been allowed, if that is the law that they mark in the regulations then we are going to start practicing it ourselves because in the end we are fools".

After two defeats in a row, Lemes explained that "we are not in a crisis cabinet either, the other match I had nothing to reproach the girls, today perhaps there were a couple of attitude failures, which is what kills me because the forces were weak and we did not know how to attack the defense and when we knew how they allowed a lot of contact and we failed a lot of shots, that is what we have to improve. Working the little head is training and forgetting about everything, we now have an exit that we have to find ourselves with the victory. I was quite afraid of this match because of the conditions in which we arrived, we have not been able to train very hard for today's match and it has been noticed", concluded Miguel Ángel Lemes.
