CB Lanzarote Puerto del Carmen defeats Cañiza and takes another step towards the promotion phase (33-34)

Match corresponding to the 19th round of Group A of the Women's Silver Division of Honor.

Puerto del Carmen

In October 2022, CB Lanzarote Puerto del Carmen won in the first leg match against Oliveira&Faro Saeplast Cañiza from Pontevedra (33-26) and managed to return to the lead after losing their first and only match of the season against Grupo CHR Hand Vall Valladolid. This weekend the Tiñoseras continue to be sole leaders after beating Cañiza again, this time by the minimum (33-34), in a match corresponding to the 19th round of Group A of the Women's Silver Division of Honor.

Although the Galician team is in the middle of the standings, it has put the Tiñoseras in check, who, although they achieved a certain advantage on the scoreboard of the Municipal Pavilion of A Cañiza from the beginning (3-7, min. 10) and reached the break with some comfort on the scoreboard (17-22, min. 30) they failed to move away on the scoreboard during the rest of the match, ending with the score adjusted in the last minutes.

Finally, the match fell on the aurinegro side despite finding more difficulties in Pontevedra than in any other match in recent months.

The player of the Galician team, Alba Afonso, with eight goals, was the most successful in Cañiza. In the aurinegras ranks, the Paraguayan Fernanda Insfran once again offered an offensive recital with 16 goals that place her as the second highest scorer in the league with 152 goals and the best league scoring average with 8.94 goals per match.

With this victory and with seven games remaining, the Tiñosero team continues to be at the top with 36 points. Behind, Carballal has 25 points, followed by Meaño with 24 and three teams, Gijón, Cañiza itself and Valladolid with 23 points, but the Pucelanos with one less game played.

For the Tiñosero coach, Juanmi Pérez, “we knew that, a priori, the match was going to be complicated because it is a difficult pavilion with a fairly combative team at home. We had to live a match with two parts. A first half with many goals on both sides and a second in which the match went crazy with many exclusions, turnovers and many inaccuracies. A crazy match that we took out at the end of one because we arrived fresher in the final minutes, which, together with experience, allowed us to win the match. Two important points to almost ensure the next phase and meet the objective of playing the promotion phase. We are happy, the girls have worked well and we are already thinking about El Pendo Camargo where we can almost certify the pass to the second phase”, concludes the Tiñosero coach.

In the 20th league match, Lanzarote Puerto del Carmen receives the visit of El Pendo Camargo, a team that is in last position in the standings with only one victory so far this season. It will be on Saturday, February 18, at 8:30 p.m., in the Municipal Pavilion of Tías.
