Ca´Mario Lanzarote San José Obrero suffered a painful defeat in the second phase of the Men's Territorial Handball League, falling in the third match by a tight 27 to 28 against Balonmano Las Palmas, in a match in which the Lanzarote team had a lead of six goals in the second half. The comeback of the Gran Canaria team occurred in the final minutes, against a Ca´Mario Lanzarote that got stuck in attack.
The match began with the dominance of Ca´Mario Lanzarote, with Cristian Luján and Pedro Noda being in charge of putting the 2 to 0 on the scoreboard. An advantage that increased as the minutes passed, with the locals having a lot of defensive intensity to steal balls and mount fast counterattacks. One of them was culminated by Pedro Noda to establish the 7 to 3.
Minutes later, the young Pedro Noda was injured in one of his ankles in a defensive action by Javier Aridani Hernández that was close to a red card. After the halfway point of the first half, Asiel Armenteros scored from the left wing to reduce the difference to just one goal (8-7), although the goals of Sergio Morera and Dani Martín raised the lead to three goals.
Ca´Mario Lanzarote maintained the three-goal lead until the end of the first half, and the break was reached with a score of 14 to 11 in favor of the locals. In the restart, the Lanzarote team had a maximum advantage of six goals, after Elliot Artiles scored from six meters and established the 22 to 16.
Everything indicated that the victory was not going to escape Ca´Mario Lanzarote, but the locals relaxed and allowed Balonmano Las Palmas to gradually get fully into the match. With eight minutes left in the match, the lead had been reduced to three goals, which forced Toño González to request a time-out.
In the final minutes of the match, Balonmano Las Palmas tied the score, Elliot Artiles missed a seven-meter shot for the locals, and Oswaldo Quevedo did not fail from seven meters to put the final 27 to 28 with which the match ended, with San José Obrero suffering a painful defeat.
The defeat places Ca´Mario Lanzarote San José Obrero in the fourth position in the standings of the group for the title of the Men's Territorial Handball League, sitting two points behind the lead. Balonmano Arona will be the next rival of the Lanzarote team.
