After being awarded a grant by the Higher Sports Council within the 2009 School Athlete Support Program, the Lanzarote player of C. B. Puerto del Carmen, Beatriz Betancort, has been awarded by the Women's Institute of the Higher Sports Council.
As with the ADE grant, in which this 15-year-old athlete obtained fourth place nationally, being the best-ranked Canary Islands athlete, not only her sporting career was valued, but also her academic record.
On this occasion, the Lanzarote native, who was Spanish champion with the Canary Islands Cadet Handball Team, has occupied the third place as the best female individual athlete in school age, being the only Canary Islands athlete awarded.
From C. B. Puerto del Carmen they consider that these two awards obtained by the young player and student of the Arenas de Costa Teguise School "are very important because both her sporting career and her academic record are taken into account, so it should be an example for the young athletes of the island".
