Balonmano Lanzarote Ciudad de Arrecife visited the court of Blendio Sinfín Santander this Sunday morning, one of the teams that was in the highest category of Spanish men's handball last season and which is one of the candidates to fight for promotion to the ASOBAL League.
Despite the good start to the match for the Lanzarote team, they lost focus in defense for several minutes and the opponent took advantage to gain an insurmountable advantage.
Balonmano Lanzarote Ciudad de Arrecife looked confident in the first minutes of the match, patiently developing each of their attacking plays and being intense in the defensive line to prevent Sinfín Santander from scoring easily. Daniel Csanyi and Ander Iriarte were in charge of leveling the score (5-5), and two subsequent actions by Ander Iriarte gave the Lanzarote team a two-goal advantage (5-7).
Sinfín Santander did not take long to turn the score around and did so relatively easily, taking advantage of the fact that Balonmano Lanzarote Ciudad de Arrecife lowered its defensive intensity and began to give too many facilities. The Cantabrians achieved a 5-0 partial score and Samuel Trives was forced to request the first timeout of the match.
The 5:1 defense set up by Sinfín Santander began to be difficult for the players of Balonmano Lanzarote Ciudad de Arrecife, not having the ideas as clear as in the first minutes of the match. A counterattack culminated by Luis Pla gave the locals a seven-goal advantage, the highest until that moment. The first half ended with a score of 17 to 11.
Balonmano Lanzarote Ciudad de Arrecife failed to close the gap on the scoreboard at any time during the second half, with the locals maintaining a comfortable lead. The match broke down as the minutes passed, with the Lanzarote team failing to find a formula to stop the Santander attacks.
The match became a back and forth, with defenses not being intense and both teams scoring quite easily. Highlight the work done in attack by the youth player Abián Martín, being confident in the pivot position and becoming the top scorer of his team, with great efficiency in each of his shots.
The match ended in La Albericia with a score of 37 to 29, with Balonmano Lanzarote Ciudad de Arrecife suffering the third defeat of the season, which places them in fourteenth position in the standings, in a category that is quite even.
