Alejandro Candela and Sara González were proclaimed winners of the El Reducto Swimming Crossing this Sunday. Both swimmers thus added a new victory, demonstrating that this season they have no rivals in the competition. The test, the eighth of the Lanzarote Open Water Swimming Cup, was attended by more than 250 swimmers of all ages.

The Nonadamos Swimming Club and the Department of Sports of the Arrecife City Council, led by Jacobo Lemes, organized this event, which began with the departure of the youngest. In the facilities of the Insular Center of Nautical Sports, in Marina Colón, the tests of the pre-Benjamin, Benjamin and Alevín categories were developed. A good number of boys and girls gathered at the test, with which, the City Council has celebrated, "the generational change is more than guaranteed" in this sport.

The swimmers in the Benjamin category had to complete a 400-meter course. Hugo Rijo (Nonadamos) with a time of 8 minutes and 24 seconds, and Denby Kennedy Hope (Nonadamos), with a mark of 8 minutes and 25 seconds, were the winners of the Benjamin category. Alejandro Ibarra and Oscar Pérez completed the men's podium and in the women's category Irene Díaz took second place, while the third classified would be Nadia Martín.

In the Alevín category, the victory went to Oscar Martín (Nonadamos) with a time of 13 minutes and 32 seconds to complete the 800 meters of the course. He was accompanied on the podium by Gabriel González (Nonadamos) and Iñigo Santamaría (Trimakina). Among the females, the victory went to Ana Gómez (Nadamas) with a mark of 14 minutes and 22 seconds. The second place was for Noa Magliocchetti (Nonadamos) and third would be Silvia Martín (Nonadamos).

 

Sara González, champion of the Cup even with 2 tests to go


The swimmers of the absolute category took the start from El Reducto beach, completing a 1,600-meter course to reach the finish line located in the facilities of the Insular Center of Nautical Sports. Beautiful images of the bay of Arrecife left the two hundred swimmers who took the start of the Crossing.

Alejandro Candela (CN Nadamás) added a new victory this season and scored the triumph in the El Reducto Swimming Crossing. The junior swimmer completed the course in a time of 20 minutes and 3 seconds, surpassing the second classified by almost 40 seconds. That second place on the podium went to Víctor González from Valladolid, while the third position would be for Lorenzo Calosso (Nonadamos).

In the women's category, the victory went to the child Sara González (Nadamás) with a time of  22 minutes and 11 seconds. She was seconded on the podium by María Betancort (Nadamás) with a record of 22 minutes and 58 seconds. And the third place was for Lara Hernández (Nonadamos) with a time of 23 minutes and 1 second. With this new victory, Sara González is already champion of the Lanzarote Open Water Swimming Cup with two tests to go until the end.

In the age groups, the winners were; Lorenzo Calosso and Sybille Bouchet (Máster A); Carmelo Caraballo and Rebeca Terradas (Máster B); Víctor González and Isabella Catherine (Máster C); Juan José Berriel and Olga Tavío (Máster D); Daniel González and Erika Machín (Máster E); José Antonio Gómez and Juana Teresa Machín (Máster F); Jesús Manuel Hormiga and María Auxiliadora Pérez (Máster G); Miguel Ángel Yurrita and María Jesús Vidal (Máster H); Manuel Mera and Theresa Abbott (Máster I); Rosa Segarra (Máster J); Annalis Gasque (Máster I).

After the test, the awards ceremony took place for each of the age groups. The event was attended by Jacobo Lemes, Councilor for Sports of the Arrecife City Council, Rafael Juan González, Deputy Mayor of Arrecife, and Councilor David Duarte. The first classified of each of the categories went up to the podium of champions of the El Reducto Swimming Crossing.
