Vocational Training in the Canary Islands suffers from serious neglect that prevents it from developing at the same level as it is doing in other autonomous communities and in the rest of Europe. And you will say, why so much emphasis on Vocational Training? Well, FP is essential to qualify our young people, generate effective and innovative entrepreneurship and achieve higher rates of employability.
Vocational Training is a path that runs parallel to the University, in terms of education, and therefore should have its own separate space. It cannot continue to travel the same highway used by compulsory education (Primary and Secondary), since it competes at a disadvantage there, since this compulsory stage will always weigh more, leaving FP in last place.
Not separating Vocational Training from Primary and Secondary education means strangling the future and possibilities of thousands of young Canary Islanders who do not choose university. Young people who want to become professionals and learn a trade to get ahead and find a place in the labor market. This training path, which other autonomous communities are already developing, multiplies the benefits for the local economy because it promotes the creation of innovative and technological companies, capable of growing and going abroad.
FP and DUAL FP require their own and differentiated space so that they receive the attention they deserve and a General Directorate is insufficient. In the Canary Islands, the debate must be opened so that FP has its own Vice-Ministry, following the pattern of the Central Government that has granted it greater rank within the Ministry, to give it visibility and recognition. It is not necessary to invent anything new, it is enough to look at models that work and offer excellent results, such as the one developed by the Basque Country or Germany. It's all a matter of attention.
