We have recently seen how two people have been brutally beaten for being gay, while peacefully having some beers on a terrace in Costa de Teguise. It is already unsafe for those of us who are homosexual or escape hetero-normativity. It is truly terrifying to even imagine that scene of two guys hitting while shouting "Faggots" and that there is a certain air of impunity and justification on the part of the aggressors.
Enough is enough!
The discourses of the extreme right are permeating our society, a society that is open, multicultural and plural in sexuality but that is being poisoned by those same hate speeches.
Today it was them but tomorrow it could be me.
We are people, damn it! We have jobs, we have families, we have lives, we want equality and to be treated with respect. Frankly, I'm sick of hearing "tolerance" as if we were lactose to be tolerated. We want respect and effective equality and security so that such despicable acts that even create weariness in us cease.
The problem lies in the normalization of extreme right-wing discourses, and yes, I point them out.
They should not be made visible, they should be made invisible and made to disappear through real education in equality, effective tolerance of human rights and total inclusiveness.
I can't stand living with that feeling of insecurity that is invading our lives for the simple fact of being who we are.
Before we were invisible and now that we fight we are attacked with the cry of "faggot".
Luckily we seek equality and not to lower ourselves to the same level, because if we seek revenge this would become the law of retaliation and in a democratic society let coherence prevail in freedom and justice.
