The south of Lanzarote must be taken care of by everyone. The south, the jewel in the crown of the island from all points of view, must be looked at carefully by all citizens if we want Lanzarote to continue being Lanzarote, known worldwide for its landscapes. This week, an environmental organization has reported on the possible causes for which we are facing Red Eléctrica to bury all the new high-voltage power lines between Mácher and Playa Blanca, throughout the area of the virgin beaches of Papagayo. Due to a terrible defense of our territory, due to a lapse, the island's landscape hangs by a thread. And not only from the environmental point of view, but also from the tourist point of view.
And for this reason today I want to talk to you about another issue that we must debate to maintain the landscape of Lanzarote as best as possible. The project to expand the Yaiza to Playa Blanca road, which proposes a four-lane highway plus the two lanes of the old road, in the surroundings of the Timanfaya National Park, the town of Yaiza, the Salinas de Janubio. And specifically I want to talk about the deficiencies and options for improvement in public transport, which would help to remove vehicles from the island's roads.
There are two easily fixable issues to make mobility on the south of the island more efficient. On the one hand, the bus service from Arrecife to Playa Blanca should be a line that does not end its service at the Playa Blanca Station, but rather a direct line from the capital to all the bus stops spread throughout the tourist town, that is, if a person goes to work in the Las Coloradas area, the bus leaves them and picks them up as close as possible to their job. On the other hand, buses must be offered until after midnight, which is when the afternoon shift staff leaves. The buses of Lanzarote, especially the lines that serve in the tourist towns, are full of visitors. Many times the local people, many workers are left on the ground because tourists use them to go shopping in Arrecife.
I propose that the island's excursion companies offer the Arrecife excursion, with a stop in the new commercial area and in the Charco de San Ginés area, just as they offer the excursion to go to the Teguise market on Sundays, where a transfer is simply provided. They also offer the excursion to go shopping at the Playa Blanca market to spend the day. Well, this option to free up places in Lanzarote's public transport and make it more effective could be a good solution. Divert tourists to buses that take them to Arrecife from their hotels. It generates business, employment, provides good service to tourists and allows good public transport service to residents and workers. We take vehicles off the roads, we maintain the option of avoiding highways on the edge of a National Park and the island's greatest tourist attraction.
The most sustainable thing in Lanzarote is to SUSTAIN THE ISLAND, sustain every piece of landscape, every stone, every little farm. And that should be the objective of any planning on this island. First the landscape, and we adapt everything else, we mimic it, so that the island continues to be special.
