Save Arrecife

I have always thought that at the local level, political ideology is not that important. That to govern a town hall well, given the limited powers, the most important thing and almost the only important thing is the desire to work, honesty and audacity to undertake actions beyond routine management.

In my environment they are scandalized when I say that in Arrecife the PP would do much better than the PSOE-CC-PIL trio. Because at least the PP meets two of the three requirements listed above (I'll let you guess which ones). If it were up to me, and if such a thing did not entail such a high political cost, I would facilitate the motion of censure for them to govern.

Yes, the PP is the party of the Gurtel, the party of the B boxes, the party of corruption and privatizations. In addition, in the opposition it functions too often as a machinery whose only guideline is the harassment and demolition of the government group, reaching embarrassing limits of hysteria and overacting. But all this does not detract from the fact that, in my opinion, at least in Arrecife they would do much better than PSOE-CC-PIL. And that is why, if it depended on me, I insist, I would facilitate the government. Fortunately, it does not depend on me.

In any case, I believe that Arrecife has reached unsustainable limits of chaos, poverty and deterioration. And that this situation demands from the parties a level of vision so far unthinkable. There is no point in crushing the mayoress and her government one day and another. It is clear that they cannot give more than they give, so there is no point in continuing to reproach them. For its part, the opposition is not in a position to present a motion of censure to the use, given the manifest incompatibilities between them. All this leads us to a situation in which there is no glimpse of any way out beyond continuing to wait until the next elections, within a year and a half. A year and a half that we will suffer the people of Arrecife, vote for the party that we have voted for.

If it were possible, I would propose to the government group of Arrecife to bring forward the elections. But the law does not allow such a thing. Municipal elections cannot be brought forward.

My proposal is the only viable one by pure discard: A government of concentration. A government with all the political forces trying to get this city forward, beyond partisanship.

Does it sound so impossible? Would it be so impossible for once to row all of us in the same direction? At least a year and a half? It is no longer just the parties... society as a whole could work together, without the suspicion that "yours govern". Instead of having a councilor with several areas, there could be someone in each of them dedicated to one hundred percent. Only a year and a half. Why not?

I know that the work of opposition is important, that there must be someone overseeing the government. But when you reach certain levels of destruction you have to prioritize the sum. And I sincerely think that Arrecife is now at that point. I think that at least someone should put this possibility on the table. A government of concentration for Arrecife. A government of salvation. A government of reconciliation.
