Look, I don't know what's happening in this country, but really, can you explain it to me? Because maybe I'm crazy and I haven't realized it. It turns out that now a judge has decided to compare a joke by Héctor de Miguel about the Valley of the Fallen with blowing up Plaza Pedro Zerolo. Yes, yes, as you hear it. And I wonder: are we okay? Come on, you simpleton, do you really think it's the same to make a joke about a Francoist monument as to talk about blowing up a space that represents the fight for LGBT rights? It's just that, honey, you have to have a master's degree in demagoguery to reach that conclusion.
Humor doesn't kill, intolerance does
Because I remind you, Mr. Judge, that satire has existed since the world is world. That if we had had judges like you centuries ago, Aristophanes would have ended up in jail for making jokes about the politics of Athens. That humor is a tool of criticism, reflection, rebellion. And yes, sometimes it can be uncomfortable. But you know what humor is not? A real threat.
Now, if you want to talk about violence and threats, I'll give you a list of hate speeches, homophobic attacks and exaltations of the dictatorship that do occur every day in this country and that, curiously, do not seem to outrage justice so much. But of course, making jokes seems more dangerous than raising your arm and singing the 'Cara al sol'.
Hypocrisy, a separate chapter
What is worrying here is not only that humor is being persecuted, but the double standard that we have been seeing for some time. Because if tomorrow someone makes a joke about Lorca, about Zerolo or about the victims of Francoism, then it is "freedom of expression". But if the joke is about the Valley of the Fallen, then we get strict. Look, no. This is not about justice, it's about selective censorship.
Judge, honey, relax a little
So, Mr. Judge, I am going to ask you a favor: have a coffee, take a deep breath and think again. Because if we start judicializing humor, we are in bad shape. And because comparing a joke with a threat of terrorism is outrageous. Really, enough of this nonsense. And above all, enough of trying to silence us. We know each other.
