As you may have noticed, the elections are here. Some rush to do what didn't come out in four years, several proposals and various justifications for the unfulfilled promises, which we know a lot about in Teguise. Between one thing and another, I am surprised by the neglect of an issue such as animals. Especially because the owners vote, and because they also require attention in a society that is increasingly aware of animal care.
It will be because I am among the people who consider that animals DO matter. They are neither properties, nor toys, nor whims... They are living beings that sometimes become one more member of the family and our life companions. Therefore, they need proposals to improve the conditions of each other.
As you know, politics in capital letters has a transforming power, as does the work of the animal shelters in the Municipality and the help of the volunteers who attend to the "furry ones" with total dedication. Their effort is priceless and they are worthy of admiration, because they do the work that should be done from the Administrations. However, I know the difficulties they go through too often.
From the PSOE Teguise we want to take a step forward in this issue. We are committed to acting from the root, promoting awareness and respect for animals as integral parts of our community. To this end, instilling good values in our children in schools will be essential to have a society that respects these faithful companions.
This is achieved with awareness campaigns and setting an example with policies such as the creation of an Animal Protection standard that contemplates the so-called "Zero Sacrifice" of animals in shelters and kennels. As well as protecting endemic species, without forgetting to promote responsible adoption and control of cat colonies through the CER method (capture-sterilization-return).
But also, spaces are needed for the enjoyment of our pets, of those "friends forever", for which we propose the creation of our first dog park in Teguise with devices suitable for the practice of the "Agility" sports modality. (Gyms for dogs).
It is a time of change in our Municipality, and it is in your hands that these issues are on the agenda from May 26. It is now or never, don't fail them.
