Last Wednesday, a day after arriving on the island, the President of the Government enjoyed a day of rest and relaxation in "La Mareta". Rodríguez Zapatero, his wife, Sonsoles Espinosa, and their daughters enjoyed their first swim on the island of the Volcanoes. The President also took the opportunity to take a short walk, around eight in the evening, with his wife in the vicinity of the royal residence.
The Secretary of State for Communication, Fernando Moraleda, commented that Zapatero refers to the island climate as the "Lanzarote effect", since, after many winters suffering from colds, the visit that the President made last year helped him to spend a winter "without colds or flu".
Once again, Zapatero will celebrate his birthday in Lanzarote (this year he turns 46), and the President of the Government will spend the day with his wife, Sonsoles Espinosa, and his two daughters. It is expected, although there is nothing confirmed from official sources, that Rodríguez Zapatero will make some outing, on the occasion of this celebration. Last year, the highest leader of the country went to La Graciosa on his anniversary, where he enjoyed a lunch and a walk through the Chinijo Archipelago.
Will visit Mountains of Fire
During a lunch with the press, the Secretary of State for Communication, Fernando Moraleda, has confirmed the rumors about the possible visit of the President of the Government and his family to the Timanfaya National Park. Zapatero received this invitation from Inés Rojas herself, during the official reception held at the headquarters of the Island Council. The president of the First Institution also advised the highest leader of the country to take the tour in the afternoon, as it is one of the best times to get to know the place.
Moraleda also explained that the President is "aware" of the importance of this visit to the island, especially in terms of tourism. The Secretary of State for Communication added that this tour of the Mountains of Fire will serve so that Lanzarote "has a new ambassador".
