To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the birth of writer Rafael Arozarena, the City Council has agreed this week to open a file to name him, posthumously, Adoptive Son

Rehabilitation of the Femés House in Yaiza

The Yaiza City Council has been carrying out work on the Casona de Femés for two weeks with different maintenance actions on its facade and the five rooms and its interior patio to carry out part of the commemorative program of three notable events coinciding this 2023: 100 years of the birth of the writer Rafael Arozarena, author of the novel Mararía inspired by Femés, 50 years of the publication of the literary work and 25 years of the production of the film based on the novel, events to be held between the months of February and April.

The mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda, and the Councilor for Culture, Daniel Medina, visited the Casona this Wednesday "and confirmed work on repairing and painting carpentry, wooden floors, ceilings and walls," they point out from the Consistory.

“The Casona de Femés will have a new cultural life starting with the Mararía events because later we will develop cultural activities in it that we are already agreeing with the Cabildo de Lanzarote”, advances the southern mayor.

Rafael Arozarena Doblado, declared Adoptive Son of the Historic City of Yaiza

The City Council agreed this week in its municipal Plenary to open a file to name Rafael Arozarena Doblado, posthumously, Adoptive Son of the Historic City of Yaiza.

Councilor Daniel Medina argued before the Corporation that “the writer, painter and naturalist is consolidated with the novel Mararía as one of the great Canarian creators, giving voice to the landscapes of Femés and letting himself be dazzled by the land of volcanoes and its mystery”. The program of events, which brings interesting cultural surprises, will be presented soon at the Casona de Femés.
