The Yaiza City Council approved this Friday with the votes in favor of Unidos por Yaiza (UPY) its 2026 budget, estimated at 33.7 million euros, in a plenary session where the municipal government, asserting its absolute majority, also gave the green light to the incorporation of 22.9 million euros in treasury reserves that the Administration chaired by Óscar Noda will allocate to different investment projects.

Among other considerations, the mayor and head of the Economy and Finance Department valued "the economic health of the Administration and the budgetary increase in social care and programs, culture, sports, with a notable increase for Sports Schools, inclusive parks, the primary sector, and the environment." Yaiza's budget increases by 2.6 million euros compared to last year, 8.3% more than in 2025.

Apart from investments in works, infrastructure, and facilities, in road projects, accessibility, parks, and sports facilities, which Yaiza, as usual, finances with its net savings since it cleaned up its accounts in 2018, leaving the accumulated historical debt of 33 million euros at zero, "the City Council confirms with these accounts and its reserves its commitment to social welfare and its investment strength."

The amount for charitable and assistance services goes from 170,000 to 200,000 euros and the City Council also nominates a subsidy of 30,000 euros to the Adsis Foundation to continue executing the Co-responsibility Plan, a project aimed at children aged 6 to 12 in situations of social vulnerability. Its objective is to promote work-life balance, while supporting the educational, emotional, and social development of minors.

The Creciendo Association maintains 25,000 euros for the care of children with special educational needs, while Yaiza allocates 8,000 euros to the Asociación de Mayores Volcán de Timanfaya and another 8,000 euros to the Asociación Ático de la Abuela, which develops the social project 'Yaiza Solidaria', independently of the broad program of care and activities that the City Council directs to its elderly.

Culture and education as pillars of formation and critical thinking are two important points of the southern management. Yaiza increases the transport aid program by 50,000 euros for university students, thus, those who study outside of Lanzarote will now receive 1,200 euros instead of the 900 from last year. The City Council also allocates 5,000 euros to the Canary Foundation University of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, a newly created subsidy.

In Culture, Yaiza extends the validity of the successful Nature Sonora project, the cycle of concerts of different outdoor music, and the Traslación Dance Festival, another reference event at the island level. Each will receive a contribution of 30,000 euros.

Regarding investments in works and facilities, as the mayor already anticipated this week at a press conference, the City Council sets priorities such as the completion of the Playa Blanca Sports Pavilion and the construction of the new Playa Blanca Library, which will be located in the area of CEO Montaña Roja. Currently, the City Council is carrying out works for more than 10 million euros in the towns of Uga and Playa Blanca. The mayor also reported that there are budgetary provisions to acquire properties of community interest to improve municipal services and/or for socio-cultural activities.

On the other hand, Yaiza foresees 2.8 million for the garbage collection service and one million more euros for the tender for the cleaning and maintenance service of the municipality's garden areas, as well as 650,000 euros for the cleaning and maintenance of educational centers. "We have designed a balanced budget, which although we would have liked to approve earlier, responds to the initiatives proposed by the different government areas which in turn respond to citizen needs," adds the mayor of Yaiza.
