The Yaiza City Council announces transportation aid for university and higher education students for the 2023-2024 academic year with a total forecast of "100,000 euros" in scholarships and important new developments.
University students who accredit studies outside of Lanzarote will receive "900 euros instead of the 750 euros of the previous year", but there are also "increases for university studies on the Island, non-face-to-face or online, which go from 300 euros to 350 euros per young person. For higher education students who live outside the island, it will increase from 250 euros to 350 euros", while the aid for higher education in Lanzarote remains at "250 euros per student".
The Administration recommends students and families to carefully read the bases and requirements published on the cover of the municipal website, fill out and sign all the annexes and provide the documentation in a timely manner to avoid having to reject applications due to lack of papers. "We already announced in the approval of the municipal budget that we would increase aid because we know that families make enormous efforts so that their boys and girls can study, so we understand that all institutional support is not only valid, but that aid from all administrations should be compatible", says Mayor Óscar Noda.
Young people who study inside and outside of Lanzarote, reside in the municipality and meet all the required requirements have "30 calendar days for the registration of applications counted from April 13, 2024". In this regard, the Councilor for Education of Yaiza, Silvia Santana, reminds young people "not to leave the collection of documents for the last minute, that they have the facility to register them electronically with their digital certificate". Students who have submitted the third-party registration document in previous calls do not need to submit it again as long as they maintain the same bank account, leaving evidence of this fact.
The call, published in the Official Bulletin of the Province of Las Palmas, number 45, dated April 12, 2024, establishes as general requirements: to be Spanish or Community and have habitual and uninterrupted residence in the municipality of Yaiza for at least 12 months and be enrolled during the academic year 2023-2024 in public and private education centers.
Applications can be submitted to the General Registry of the Yaiza City Council, located in the Plaza de los Remedios, nº1 of Yaiza, in the Municipal Office of Playa Blanca or in the electronic headquarters of the city council.
