The works of the future San Bartolomé Family Respite Center have begun this Monday, with an execution period of six months to complete the works. "Today is an important day for the municipality," said the mayor, Isidro Pérez, stressing that this was one of the works they had planned "from minute one" of the mandate.
"From this institution we will respond to the situation experienced by caregivers of dependent elderly relatives, so that they find that necessary support for a few hours a day. Today we are making the beginning of one of the priority objectives of Alexis Tejera a reality, more present than ever on this important day," he added, remembering his predecessor in office, who passed away last November.
The work is being carried out by Lanzagrava S.L., with a budget of 549,528 euros, plus 38,466.99 euros in respect of IGIC, and takes advantage of a municipal facility on Arrecife street in San Bartolomé, improving the operation and modernizing the construction, including a new rear module with vegetation and a playground in the outdoor area with benches and shade.
Among other things, the center will have two multipurpose rooms, common rooms, a treatment room with adjustable geriatric beds, a staff room, an administration room and an outdoor space for adapted physical exercise, with bio-healthy machinery. It will also have adapted toilets, changing rooms and laundry, with accessible routes from the outside and inside of the premises, and will include a renovation of the envelope to adapt it, modification of supply and sanitation facilities, installation of new LED lighting, ventilation and air conditioning.
Once the works are completed, the center will offer "a few hours a day help to dependent elderly people, the objective of this municipal project being to promote the family and socio-labor reconciliation of family members and people in their care."
"We have not ceased in our efforts to carry out this project because it is a great management commitment to our dependent elderly and their families. There have been constant meetings with the multidisciplinary technical, health and legal team behind it," the mayor stressed.
In addition, he recalled that they also have the "Unwanted loneliness project" and the "Count on me, zero loneliness" program underway, which will soon be joined by this new center. "It remains our desire to provide the municipality with socio-health places that this island lacks, through a Residential Area for the Elderly, in which a team of professionals is already working," added Isidro Pérez.
In addition, he wanted to thank "the work carried out by the Departments of Urban Planning, Contracting, Senior Citizens and Social Welfare, as well as the multidisciplinary team behind all the work."
