Works awarded for the conditioning and improvement of the Mozaga - El Peñón road

The work will involve an investment of almost one million euros and the repair of a road "that has not been the object of a comprehensive improvement project for 40 years"

The President of the Cabildo and the Minister of Public Works

The Cabildo of Lanzarote has proceeded to award the conditioning of the LZ-409 road that connects the population centers of Mozaga and El Peñón, in the municipality of Teguise, to the company Hormigones Insulares, SL, for an amount of 1,067,759.64 euros (IGIC included).

The president of the Cabildo, María Dolores Corujo, explained the importance of this project within the action plans designed by the first Corporation. “This is a road that was paved more than 40 years ago and since then a comprehensive conditioning has not been carried out of the almost 3.5 kilometers it has. A little more than a decade ago, the pavement was reinforced in the first 875 meters, but everything else has been patching,” he pointed out.

According to the Councilor for Public Works, Planning and Project Coordination of the Cabildo, Jacobo Medina, “the situation has become unsustainable for the Cabildo's Road Conservation and Maintenance Service, which is assuming constant repairs, patching and patching that exceed what should be the routine maintenance work”. “In addition, and most importantly, these actions are clearly insufficient because the condition of the pavement is so bad that it has lost both its functional and structural properties,” he added.

The project is co-financed between the Cabildo and the Canary Islands Development Fund (FDCAN) and has an execution period of three months. The conditioning works will be carried out along the entire length of the road, without modifying the layout, and will include the installation of all the necessary signage and safety elements, which are currently non-existent.
