Construction begins for the Playa Blanca Health Center

"I hope that the demolition affects users little," says María José Costa, director of the island's Health area, to La Voz de Lanzarote. Last Saturday morning, work began on the construction of the new Playa Blanca Health Center. Thus, the module located in the back of the Clinic was demolished and Ramón García Zerpa, manager of Health Services of Lanzarote, was present there. The director points out that in order to meet the demand of the two consultations that were located in the demolished facility, two prefabricated modules have been installed in the front of the Clinic.

"What worries me most is the entry and exit of trucks," says the director regarding the works. Although she also explains that a street will be set up that, on the one hand, will be used for the entrance of ambulances and some cars that carry patients who need wheelchairs and, on the other, for trucks. Likewise, Costa says that the City Council agreed to enable the esplanade below the Clinic as a car park.

The first module of the new Health Center, which will be a few meters from the current one, is scheduled to be completed in one year. This has 600 square meters, an area that corresponds to twice the Playa Blanca Clinic, thus accommodating the demand of the population that has increased in the area. Costa explains that once the move to the new building is made, the old one will be demolished and then the second module of the new Health Center will begin to be built, which once finished, will quadruple the area of the current one in total. "We are going to have a very big advance," says the director.
