Unemployment, economic problems and health are the three main headaches of the people of the Canary Islands. This is at least what emerges from the second and last wave of the Barometer of Public Opinion of the Canary Islands corresponding to 2010, prepared by the Economic and Social Council of the Canary Islands and which was presented this Friday by its president, Fernando Redondo, in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

Unemployment accounts for the highest number of mentions (85.1 percent of respondents), followed at a distance by economic problems (33.7) and health (26.3). The people of the Canary Islands also believe that, in addition to affecting their personal situation, the three main problems existing in the Canary Islands are also those that affect the entire island society to the greatest extent. In this case, as a global problem, unemployment is also the main social scourge (52.8 percent), followed by economic problems (30) and health (22.7).

Around two thirds of the population of the Canary Islands considers that the performance of the Government of the Canary Islands with respect to the three main problems has been bad and in general, the Central Government is perceived as the main administration responsible for solving unemployment and economic problems and the Government of the Canary Islands with respect to health.

Citizen insecurity, education and problems related to the quality of employment are the next concerns of the people of the Canary Islands (all between 12 and 13 percent), who on this occasion do not even remember corruption.
