Turismo Lanzarote will maintain the agenda with tourism agents despite the cancellation of the ITB in Berlin

The Lanzarote Tourism Promotion Society (SPEL-Turismo Lanzarote) will maintain most of the meetings and work meetings that it had planned to carry out during the celebration of the ITB Berlin, despite its cancellation by the German authorities.

According to the president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, María Dolores Corujo, and the Minister of Tourism Promotion, Ángel Vázquez, the island promotion entity "will begin this Monday the necessary steps to reorganize the agenda and set, by videoconference or telephone conversation, the work meetings that were planned, as well as electronically subscribe to the renewal and expansion of promotional and co-marketing agreements with the main German tourism agents, airlines and tour operators, as planned in the German capital. Meetings in which the participation of representatives of the Island Tourism Federation is expected".

In this way, the Minister affirms that "the negative impact that the suspension of ITB Berlin may cause from the point of view of promotion will be greatly mitigated, since it must be taken into account that the three major fairs WTM, FITUR and ITB, are not so much oriented to the final public, but are conceived as large meeting points or networking between the protagonists of the world tourism industry".

"Our intention is to act quickly with all the means at our disposal, joining the measures proposed by the Government and maintaining the network of planned meetings in a decentralized manner, waiting for the meetings to finally take place in situ or for the ITB to be held in the coming months, which would undoubtedly be good news both for the remission of the coronavirus and for normalizing a key event for the world tourism industry itself," he said. 

Among other measures, Turismo Lanzarote's promotional actions in Germany will be significantly reinforced, through the SPEL-Turismo Lanzarote promotion technician for Germany and Central Europe, permanently deployed to Berlin. 

"Logically, we must not minimize the tourist impact that may occur if the measures and protocols are extended in time, in terms of the contraction of demand, but there is confidence because from the sanitary point of view. Spain, the Canary Islands and Lanzarote manage the situation with guarantees," said Vázquez.

Agenda

Turismo Lanzarote had prepared for ITB 2020 an agenda of more than fifteen meetings with a work agenda focused primarily on sustainability as the main strategy of our destination in a market very sensitive to the Environment, and on improving and strengthening the island's connectivity with the Teutonic country. 

Among other agreements, the re-edition and expansion of collaboration agreements of the island promotion entity with four of the most powerful operators in the German market are contemplated: TUI, the reference tour operator that leads the German market; RTK Mein Reisebüro, one of the most prominent German cooperatives of travel agencies that groups more than 2,000 operators; the airline Eurowings, low cost subsidiary of Lufthansa, and Schaunsinsland Reisen, a tour operator that has been gaining increasing relevance in that market.
