The Lanzarote Foreign Promotion Society states that it has taken “one step further” in its strategy of positioning the island as a “sustainable tourist destination” by signing an agreement with ‘La Buena Huella’, a consultancy that created the Competitive Regenerative Tourism model that "will develop training or mediation actions for the destination's sustainability performance".

In addition to proposing the aforementioned model as a method of analysis, ‘La Buena Huella’ will facilitate “a network of alliances with entities recognized in the field of sustainability” giving “visibility and a network of contacts to the destination”. For its part, Turismo Lanzarote "will accentuate sustainable marketing in terms of communication", for which it will have the support of the consultancy, which "will select and advise" in the preparation of the most appropriate messages and the specific interest groups to which to target them.

‘La Buena Huella’ is a participating partner of the United Nations Global Compact - a solidarity initiative that seeks to transform the business sector and promote a sustainable and responsible private sector and public administration - and an active member of the Global Sustainable Tourism Council, which establishes and manages global sustainability standards in the travel and tourism sector.

“We are going to continue betting decisively on initiatives that contribute to ensuring that tourism activity on the island is carried out under the premises of caring for the Environment and the conservation of the territory”, said María Dolor Corujo.

In this sense, the president recalls that the Secretary of State for Tourism has allocated “more than 1.6 million euros to finance the Island's Tourism Sustainability Plan, ‘Lanzarote, the energy of the volcano’”.  “It will commemorate the great promoter of a modern tourism model that respects our environment, César Manrique, and will allow us to strengthen our destination as a benchmark in terms of quality”, says the president.

The island councilor for Tourism Promotion, Ángel Vázquez, emphasizes that “from SPEL-Turismo Lanzarote we understand that sustainability must have a horizontal implementation in the destination, with a presence in all experiences, products and events, and the signing of this agreement will effectively contribute to the achievement of said objective”.

The application of its Competitive Regenerative Tourism model starts from measuring the positive and negative impacts of a tourism activity to carry out a technical diagnosis and a report of recommendations prior to the execution of an action plan focused on obtaining a qualification that places it as an asset for the planet and based on good governance and other spheres such as environmental, economic, social and cultural. This process is verified and certified by an external independent entity.
