Tourism grants one million euros to restore the Las Bolas bridge and for works in Puerto del Carmen

The Canary Islands Government Council approved this Thursday the granting of a subsidy from the Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce to the Cabildo of Lanzarote for the restoration of the Las Bolas bridge for an amount of 400,000 euros and to the City Council of Tías for the remodeling of Teide street for 666,893 euros.

In this regard, the regional Executive points out that both actions are justified for reasons of economic and social interest, in the first case, in the municipality of Arrecife, since the action to be financed consists of the restoration of the so-called Bolas bridge, its path and drawbridge, integrated into the Historic Site of the Castle of San Gabriel, "in order to ensure its conservation and maintenance and to provide it with lighting that facilitates night transit through the area." It is, therefore, "a set of measures that have a favorable impact on all users of the area, whether residents or tourists," he adds.

In the second case, the Government Council authorizes a direct subsidy to the City Council of Tías of 666,893 euros to finance the action defined as Remodeling of Teide Street in Puerto del Carmen, which aims to guarantee universal accessibility to public spaces, through the regeneration of pavements, the widening of sidewalks, the improvement in the collection of drinking water, public lighting, low voltage, telecommunications, resurfacing and signage. It is, therefore, "a set of measures that seeks to improve all users, whether or not they are tourists," he also states in this case.

The Government of the Canary Islands points out that "all this necessarily and as a priority determines the financing of the programmed project in order to improve the area of La Tiñosa, which corresponds to the urban center, traditional fishing of Puerto del Carmen, in which buildings of great historical interest are still preserved, as well as the structure of the pier, of relevance for the economic development of the area".
