The Municipal Government of Arrecife will present the Arrecife Tourism Awards 2024 next September, during the gala for World Tourism Day.
The Tourism Board, chaired by Councilor Eli Merino, head of the Tourism, Commerce and Sports Areas, has deliberated and approved the awarding of the Arrecife Tourism Awards 2024 to the musician Toñín Corujo, the Olympic and Lanzarote athlete José Carlos Hernández, and the companies Sam Parfums, and the Arrecife Gran Hotel, a five-star tourist establishment, which has become the benchmark for high-quality tourism in the capital of Lanzarote.
The awards, which recognize the trajectories and contributions of these personalities and entities to the development of Arrecife and Lanzarote, in their different categories, wish to highlight these contributions. The meeting of the Tourism Board, in which representatives of the Lanzarote and La Graciosa Chamber of Commerce, the Lanzarote Business Tourism Federation, directors of tourist firms established in Arrecife, and trade organizations, among others, were present, took place this week in the halls of the Casa de la Cultura Agustín de la Hoz, in Arrecife.
In the business/professional career category, the award has been given to the company Sam Parfums, created in 1969 by the late entrepreneur Sham Dayaram Idnani, founder of Sam Parfums, taking the first steps as one of the pioneers of the bazaar sector in the capital of Lanzarote. Sham's sons and daughters continue with the management of the good legacy they received from their father.
Toñín Corujo, a prominent timple player, has been awarded in the cultural and artistic category. Corujo, a member of a prominent family that loves folklore and musical traditions, is the driving force behind creating a large pool of talent with his music school, and innovating with several of his shows where the sound of the Lanzarote timple is present.
The Lanzarote athlete, born in Arrecife, José Carlos Hernández, participant in the London 2012 Olympic Games, and marathon specialist, will receive the award in the sports career category. As is well known, José Carlos Hernández is linked to Arrecife's sporting events as the promoter of the Disco Night Urban Race.
The Arrecife Tourism Award 2024 has gone to the five-star hotel establishment, and emblem of quality tourism, Arrecife Gran Hotel. An icon of tourism in Lanzarote that underwent a transformation of its interior design in recent years, after the declaration of the pandemic, and its commitment to the city as a tourist destination throughout the year.
Finally, in the events category, the award, in the opinion of the members of the Arrecife Tourism Board, has been for the 'Candlelight Concert', a great cultural, artistic and tourist initiative promoted by the Classical Orchestra of Lanzarote, with the sponsorship of the Arrecife City Council through the Department of Tourism and Commerce, directed by Eli Merino.
The mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, and the councilor for Tourism, Eli Merino, welcome these recognitions that recognize professionals and companies that are already part of the sports, cultural, business, and tourism history of the city that this year commemorates the 225th anniversary of the founding of the municipality.
The team of the Department of Tourism is already working on the organization of the gala for the presentation of these important awards. An event that will take place in the last week of September, coinciding with the commemoration of World Tourism Day.
