The Tinajo City Council will request the concession of the La Santa lake from the Coasts. This was announced in a statement, in which it shows its approval after the negative pronouncement of Coasts on the permit for a large aquatic ski installation in this enclave, with cables with aerial cables and a complementary logistics building.
In addition, the mayor of Tinajo has lashed out at the president of the PP of Lanzarote and mayor of Arrecife, Ástrid Pérez, and against the current CEO of the Tourist Centers, Benjamín Perdomo, who at the time affirms that "they positioned themselves next to the private company" that wanted to install the cable ski.
"It remains to be seen what explanations they give now," said Jesús Machín, pointing out that both "presented allegations in favor of the concession to the private company." In this regard, the mayor of Tinajo asks himself if "at present, they would be able to defend a project like this for the Arrecife Marina." "Now that they are at it, let them explain the relationship of that company with their parties," Machín also demands, who assures that he will "always" defend "whoever defends" Tinajo and the island of Lanzarote.
For the Tinajo City Council, the negative of the Demarcation of Coasts of the Canary Islands of April 7 on the request made by the mercantile company Volcano Wake "gives validity" to the arguments against the installation raised by the Consistory itself, tourist leisure companies in the area and environmental groups.
In this regard, it is pointed out that the refusal of the Tinajo City Council to the initiative "was early", as it considered that "the occupation of 124,378 square meters of public domain area did not respond to an activity that benefited Tinajo and that, apparently, lacked general interest." The Tinajero consistory sought to avoid "an initiative that would undoubtedly cause a great visual impact in the area in addition to what could seem like a hidden privatization of the La Santa lake."
The mayor of Tinajo, Jesús Machín, recalls the trip he made to Madrid in March 2015 with the support of the Deputy Minister of the Government of the Canary Islands Mario Pérez and the senator of Lanzarote at that time, Óscar Luzardo, together with the lawyer and the architect of the consistory, and wants to "publicly thank the support of individuals, through the allegations presented against the project, among others, by Alexis Morales of the La Laguneta de Tinajo Wrestling Club, by José Antonio Morales, of the Tinajo Trident Club as well as the councilor, at the time of the group of non-attached, Nicanor Rodríguez, showing a sensitivity that is difficult to see in opposition parties in Tinajo since then."
Criticism of the opposition for "putting on medals"
For Machín, the rejection of the cable ski installation is news that "greatly pleases" him. "Because we managed to maintain the nature of the La Santa lake and, although the company can still establish an appeal against the decision within a few days, it is clear that the path started is a small great victory for our municipality," he says.
However, he regrets that part of the opposition has "cynically come out to put on medals for the decision of Coasts forgetting, not only the treatment it has given to the municipality for decades, but also the fact that to position itself negatively in this case it has taken more than a decade to pronounce." "Medal and photo in La Santa when the people of Tinajo are shown that it is not their priority," adds the mayor.
Despite the "bumps" observed, the government group of Tinajo affirms that it feels "protected by the Law" and trusts that "if in October 2016 everything except the use of the La Santa lake was ceded to the Tinajero consistory", now it will be able to achieve the concession of the same.
