Tinajo tenders the garbage contract for 3.8 million by decree and the PSOE denounces "obscurantism"

The socialists accuse Jesús Machín of tendering the service "behind the backs" of the opposition. "It's nonsense", says Begoña Hernández

Overflowing garbage containers in the municipality of Tinajo

The Tinajo Town Council has finally put out to tender the garbage collection service in the municipality, a contract that expired at the end of 2019 and has since been extended. However, the tender has already generated the first criticisms from the opposition, which has denounced the "obscurantism" of the government group for tendering this service "secretly" and "behind their backs." "It's nonsense," says PSOE spokesperson Begoña Hernández.

"Tomorrow we have a plenary session and it's not even being taken to the plenary. In other words, politics in Tinajo is based on what we have always criticised, which is the obscurantism of the government group. Once again, it is being done by decree. How is a municipality like Tinajo going to be governed by decrees? We are talking about a specification with an amount of around 4 million euros, so we think it is important to know what it consists of," said Hernández.

In fact, the PSOE councillor in the Tinajo Town Council stated on Tuesday morning that she was unaware that the tender had already been published on the State Procurement Platform. "I had seen the decree, but we didn't know when it was going to be published," she said.

"I think that dialogue in politics, and especially in these times, is quite important, and it is one of the things that Jesús Machín lacks," added Begoña Hernández, who thus attacked the management of the mayor of Tinajo. "I think that the other times when things were done in the dark are over and that transparency in municipal management is one of the fundamental things on which a policy must be based, and especially a municipal policy, which in Tinajo we do not have a large budget, but a budget of seven million euros," said the PSOE spokesperson.

A contract for 3.8 million and for 10 years

Specifically, the Tinajo household solid waste collection and treatment service has been put out to tender for a total of 3,850,000 euros and the contract is expected to last for ten years. The deadline for submitting bids will be on October 28.

"That after so long, with the insistence with which we have acted from the opposition with the issue of garbage, it is done behind the backs of the members of the corporation, when after all they are seven and we are six, it seems to me of course nonsense. I hope that tomorrow he will give the appropriate answers in the Plenary and that they will be sincere, because of course the PSOE is totally against the fact that it has been done by decree," insisted Begoña Hernández.

For more than a year, the opposition in the Tinajo Town Council has not only been criticising the fact that the government group has not put the garbage collection contract out to tender, but has also been making public "deficiencies" in the service. In this case, the Renovating Movement of Tinajo has been denouncing since last summer that days have passed without the garbage being collected.
