The Tías City Council was granted on January 19 a subsidy from the Ministry of Tourism of the Canary Islands Government for an amount of 153,778 euros to change all the directional and tourist signage of the municipal area of Tías, especially in the area of Puerto del Carmen.
The Councilor for Tourism, Mame Fernández, declares that "due to the important and historical deterioration of the signage on the streets of the municipality, especially in the tourist center of Puerto del Carmen, the Tourism area has promoted this project to change all directional and tourist signage."
The directional and tourist signage project has existed since 2017, but it had not been executed nor had it accessed any subsidy. The Tourism area of the Tías City Council of the new government group, formed by PSOE, Lanzarote Avanza (LAVA) and Lanzarote en Pie-Sí Podemos, rescued this project, which will have to be updated.
Mame Fernández explains that the Tourism area collaborated in 2017 in the drafting of a project that included the change of all the signage in the municipality and whose amount amounted to €153,778.00. "This project was sleeping in a drawer until the new Tourism team recovered it and put it on the list of necessary improvements for the municipality. And it is the one that has been used as a basis to request the subsidy."
"Once the subsidy has been granted by the Ministry of Tourism on January 19, all the signs will be reviewed and a new project will be prepared so that during this year 2021 we can effectively renew this important tourist infrastructure that helps residents and visitors to reach the different accommodations and tourist attractions of our municipality," adds the Head of Tourism.
