The Tías City Council presented this Thursday its III Employment Fair, a consolidated initiative that this year will be held for the first time in the nucleus of Tías. The fair will take place on Thursday, May 14, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., in Plaza El Pavón, with free admission and a complete program aimed at improving the employability of citizens, facilitating direct contact with companies, and offering practical tools for job searching.

The presentation was presided over by the mayor, José Juan Cruz, who excused the absence of the Councilor for Employment, Carmen Gloria Rodríguez, due to agenda reasons, the first deputy mayor, Nicolás Saavedra, the president of the Lanzarote Tourism Federation (FTL), Susana Pérez, and the vice president of Gehocan Lanzarote, David Ayala, collaborating entities of the event.

José Juan Cruz underscored that “this fair is not just an event, it is a useful tool for many people who are looking for a job opportunity or who need to reinvent themselves professionally. Our goal is to offer real, practical, and accessible resources that help improve their possibilities, focusing on artificial intelligence and female employment”.

Nicolás Saavedra recalled that, as in the two previous editions, held in Puerto del Carmen, “this time we will have in Tías two other stands dedicated to the social commitment sector. In the municipality we work with about 50 groups and some of them will be in these booths providing and receiving information on employment”.

Susana Pérez pointed out for her part that “among the numerous planned activities, a specific presentation on Tourism is included where the wide variety of profiles and job positions offered by the sector's chain is presented, seen as a world of opportunities”. The FTL representative emphasized the positive impact of entities that have a direct or indirect link with Tourism, from hotels to tourist guides, shops, and supply companies, among others.

David Ayala invited companies to participate in this fair, which seeks to become a starting point towards new job opportunities for all involved. “I invite you to join and have a successful day, with the involvement of the largest possible number of entities and the public”. Ayala also valued the quality of the planned presentations and workshops, which will provide different techniques on job searching.

Conferences and workshops

During the event, attendees will be able to participate in conferences and talks on key topics such as the impact of artificial intelligence on selection processes, job opportunities in Lanzarote, or the development of a competitive professional profile.

In addition, free practical workshops will be developed —prior registration— focused on improving the curriculum, interview preparation, mental strength during the job search, or rejoining the labor market after a break.

Likewise, José Juan Cruz highlighted the importance of bringing these types of initiatives to the entire municipality: “after two editions in Puerto del Carmen, we are taking an important step by celebrating this fair in Tías, in a central and accessible space, reinforcing our commitment to employment in all areas of the municipality”.

Omayra Cazorla

As a novelty, the program incorporates a special closing with the performance of the Canarian comedian Omayra Cazorla, a proposal that, as the mayor pointed out, also responds to a social reflection: “we wanted to count on a figure like Omayra Cazorla because female unemployment remains one of the highest. Her participation offers a close, human, and also vindicatory perspective, which connects with many of the realities we want to make visible”.

The Tías Job Fair provides a meeting space between companies, professionals, and people actively seeking employment, combining training, guidance, and real opportunities in the same environment.
