Puerto del Carmen is decked out to celebrate its patron saint festivities in honor of the Virgen del Carmen. The Tías City Council, together with the Festival Committee, has prepared a total of 75 activities between this Monday, the 29th, and August 11th to celebrate these festivities that will have La Tiñosa as their epicenter.
The mayor of Tías, Pancho Hernández, accompanied by the deputy mayor and councilor for Culture, Jerónimo Robayna, and the councilor for Festivals and Sports, Francisco Javier Aparicio Betancort, presented the program for these festivities this Monday. This year, more activities have been programmed and with "optimal quality", according to the mayor, although the budgets allocated to festivals have been reduced by 25 percent.
The official program of the festivities begins this Thursday, August 1st, with the reading of the proclamation by Antonio Pérez Padrón, who was a councilor in the Municipal Corporation of Tías in various stages in previous governments, and linked to football in La Tiñosa.
Sports championships
Before the proclamation, on Wednesday the XI Domingo Robayna Memorial (Mingo) will be held on the courts of the IES of Puerto del Carmen. This activity is organized directly by the A.D.C.R. La Tiñosa-Tinguafaya, and sponsored by the Tías City Council.
The festival program is accompanied by photographs of the families who have lived in La Tiñosa. These images are part of the retrospective exhibition of La Tiñosa, which will be inaugurated this Friday at 8:00 p.m. in the El Fondeadero rooms in Puerto del Carmen. At the same time, the documentary "Voices of the People", recorded in Puerto del Carmen, will be screened. That same day, and after this screening, the Miss Puerto del Carmen contest will take place, in which 12 candidates have been presented.
El Quíquere Popular Race
The sports program of the La Tiñosa festivities incorporates several new features this year, including the first El Quíquere Popular Race, which will run along the coast of La Tiñosa, Barranco del Quíquere and Puerto Calero. Participants will compete in two modalities of 5 and 10 kilometers.
In addition to this sporting event, on Friday, August 9, a children's and adult diving workshop will be held, with the collaboration of the Alisios Sub Lanzarote El Poril Diving Center, and on Sunday, the 11th, the Swimming Crossing from the waters of Playa Grande, in Puerto del Carmen.
Tenderete Night
On Friday, August 9, the El Varadero square, in Puerto del Carmen, will host a Night of Parranda and dances with the performances of El Golpito, Chimia, El Geito, Raíces and o Pa'l Porrón. The program includes a different activity for each night in the El Varadero square, until next Sunday, August 12, where the festivities will conclude with the traditional maritime procession starting at 7:00 p.m.
Before, at noon, there will be a Jolateros Regatta in the waters of La Tiñosa. That night will conclude with a special gala with performances by the groups Raíces and Vocal Siete. One of the highlights of the La Tiñosa festivities, on Saturday the 10th, will feature performances by the musical groups Los Parranderos and Las Encantadoras, in the El Varadero square starting at 9:30 p.m.
