Tías presents the Tourism Awards, highlighting key contributions to the development of Puerto del Carmen

The Tías City Council has celebrated the Tourism Awards, recognizing people and entities whose contribution has played a key role in making Puerto del Carmen a tourist reference, not only in Lanzarote, but throughout the Canary Islands. 

During the ceremony, the mayor of Tías, José Juan Cruz, highlighted that the award winners have not only been outstanding in their work, but are friends and beloved neighbors, whose dedication has left a deep mark on the municipality. "These people are recognized not only for their work and professional performance, but also for the affection they generate inside and outside our municipality," the mayor stressed.

Among the award winners is Wenceslao Gil Tejera, a veteran of the hospitality sector who has dedicated more than 46 years of his life to serving with care and dedication at the emblematic Hotel Fariones. His name is synonymous with professionalism and closeness, being highly appreciated by those who have been lucky enough to cross paths with him in his extensive career as a waiter.

For his part, Miguel Santos Ortiz has been recognized for his passion for gastronomy and wine. Very popular among lovers of good food, he has built, together with his children, a restaurant that is distinguished by offering high quality and local products. His work, imbued with love for local flavors, has earned him a special place in the hearts of many. 

Modesta Marrero García, with a life dedicated to the sea, is one of the last masters of traditional fishing arts. From a very young age, Modesta has lived and breathed the essence of the ocean, a woman full of stories who proudly treasures her unbreakable connection with the sea, being an example of struggle and perseverance. 

Another key name is that of Francisco Rodríguez Rodríguez, the oldest skipper of the fishermen's association. Francisco grew up on the seashore, learning the secrets of fishing from his father, who instilled in him from a young age the love and respect for the ocean. His contribution has been essential to keep the fishing tradition of the area alive. 

The I.E.S. Puerto del Carmen has been distinguished for its commendable work in the "ZEConsciente" project, an initiative that has demonstrated the great commitment of its students to caring for the environment. Through their participation in the celebration of World Oceans Day, these young people have managed to awaken an environmental awareness that inspires the entire community. 

Finally, Rogelio Herrera Pérez, a visionary oceanographer who has been key in the conservation of natural spaces as valuable as Playa Chica and the Cagafrecho area, has been recognized. His ability to recognize the importance of these enclaves and lead efforts for their protection has left an indelible mark on the conservation of the region's natural heritage.
