The Tías City Council invites residents and visitors to the celebration of St. Patrick's Day, patron saint of Ireland, in the tourist town of Puerto del Carmen, where a large number of Irish people reside.
The mayor of Tías, José Juan Cruz, and the first deputy mayor and Councilor for Tourism, Mame Fernández, are taking advantage of this celebration to "thank the Irish community for their loyalty to our destination." "In Puerto del Carmen they feel at home and every year they choose us as their favorite destination," they add.
Thus, this Tuesday at 12 noon, a hurling match, considered the national sport of Ireland, was held on Playa Grande in Puerto del Carmen. The Consistory points out that hurling is a team sport of Celtic origin that is played with sticks with which a ball is hit, and that it is regulated by the Gaelic Athletic Association. It is practiced mainly in Ireland and is similar to shinty, which is played in Scotland. In addition, they point out that there is a female version called camogie.
