The agreement contemplates the creation of the first Inter-institutional Coordination Body on gender violence in the municipality, among other actions

Agreement signing in Tías

The Tías City Council has signed an agreement with the Canary Islands Institute for Equality (ICI) to join the "Mask-19 Municipality" pilot project, with the aim of giving voice to the message to victims of gender violence in the municipality and put an end to the situation of sexist violence they are suffering.

As explained by the director of the ICI, Kika Fumero, "the agreement signed this Wednesday between both institutions pursues a common goal: to involve the citizens of the municipality in the prevention and fight against gender violence, as well as protect these women, making available to them a reporting tool, in addition to including the realization of various actions aimed at establishing a culture of zero violence against sexist violence in the municipality."

The "Mask-19 Municipality" project is made up of two fundamental lines of action. On the one hand, the celebration of training actions in the prevention of gender violence and the construction of egalitarian non-violent relationships between women and men, which will be taught to social agents of the municipality (pharmacies, neighborhood associations, professionals from different economic sectors such as shops, taxis, hairdressers, etc.).

And on the other, the development of an awareness campaign aimed at the entire population of the municipality, through social networks and conventional media, in order to raise awareness, train and create a culture of zero violence against gender violence.

In addition, specific actions are contemplated, such as the implementation of a coordination and collaboration protocol between the different municipal departments, and the promotion and creation of the "I Inter-institutional Coordination Body on Gender Violence" of the municipality of Tías.

To carry out this set of actions, the Canary Islands Institute for Equality allocates an amount of 75,000 euros to this agreement.

"Everything that can be done is not enough because abuse, violence and murders persist. We resolutely and forcefully join this ICI initiative to create neighborhoods and municipalities free of gender violence, where the population has fully internalized that we protect the victims and condemn the macho and abusers," said the mayor of the town, José Juan Cruz Saavedra, who thanked the Institute for continuing and relaunching the Mask-19 project.
