Tías is the most transparent municipality in Lanzarote, Fuerteventura and Gran Canaria, according to data from a study prepared by the Rey Juan Carlos University, which reveals compliance with the Transparency Law in Spanish municipalities with more than 50,000 inhabitants.
These data were presented this Wednesday by the mayor, Pancho Hernández, accompanied by the newly appointed deputy mayor, Mame Fernández, and the councilor for Economy and Finance, Ramón Melián. In addition, they highlighted that at the regional level Tías is in fourth place in this ranking at the regional level, while the municipality of San Bartolomé is in tenth place. The first position is for Arona, in Tenerife.
This report was finalized in July of this year by the Research Team of the Department of Business Economics of the Rey Juan Carlos University. This team set itself the objective of assessing, in quantitative terms, the current degree of adaptation of the town halls to the Transparency Law, in two different aspects: the quality and adaptation to the law of public information and the ease of access to said information.
This assessment has been carried out in accordance with an indicator of own elaboration of the aforementioned University, based on a homogeneous collection of information carried out through a questionnaire. This questionnaire was grouped into four blocks of information: the organizational and planning institution; the legal; the economic, budgetary and statistical; and the request for access to information.
Councilor Ramón Melián explained that Tías has risen to number 2 in the ranking of the 88 municipalities of the Islands for transparency in terms of economic, budgetary and statistical information. The mayor believes that this study reflects the "good work" that is being done since the PP came to the Mayor's Office in 2011.
"Good government"
"Now, the University and an investigation, places Tías in the first place of the municipalities of Lanzarote in good government and political and public transparency, as well as
in the management of public resources. A position that also allows it to be a Lanzarote municipality the most transparent in the entire province of Las Palmas, and to be among the closest to the citizens in all of the Canary Islands", the mayor highlighted.
For his part, the deputy mayor, Mame Fernández (CC), congratulated the mayor and his team. "It is an achievement of this government group, and it must be recognized as such. I, from now on, will work side by side to improve this position, before an upcoming report," Fernández said, who recently joined the government group.
The City Council has also recalled that during the past year 2013 it was among the public institutions of Lanzarote where a better service and attention to the citizen is provided, according to the Survey of Island Issues carried out by the Data Center, dependent on the Cabildo.
