The mayor of Tías, José Juan Cruz Saavedra, and the Councilor for Urban Planning, Ulpiano Calero, traveled to Tenerife this Tuesday to hold a meeting with the president of the Government of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, and deliver the agreement that both institutions will sign to formalize the Third Plan for Modernization, Improvement and Increase of Competitiveness of Puerto del Carmen. This document takes a further step towards its approval, after the Justice annulled the second plan approved in 2013.
The "Agreement between the Ministry of Ecological Transition, Fight against Climate Change and Territorial Planning of the Government of the Canary Islands and the City Council of Tías", already signed by the mayor, is addressed to the General Directorate of Territorial Planning, Ecological Transition and Waters; and according to the Consistory "it will allow to implement the management assignment related to the formalization of the Third Modernization Plan".
José Juan Cruz also transferred the agreement of the Local Government Board of the approval of said agreement text. In this meeting, it was formally requested "to continue with the pertinent procedures for the formalization of the management assignment for the formulation of the 3rd Modernization Plan of Puerto del Carmen".
"It is a great step for the municipality of Tías and for the tourism sector of Lanzarote. We are going through a very complicated stage, so we have to face it and prepare ourselves to economically incentivize the island. We are talking about rehabilitation, renovation, diversification of the accommodation and complementary offer, and of the free spaces to expand the leisure offer, among other aspects," declared Cruz Saavedra.
"We perceive good predisposition from the Government of the Canary Islands, with excellent availability to work collaboratively, so we thank the regional Executive and the Ministry of Ecological Transition for this cooperation with the City Council of Tías in the formalization of this document," the mayor stressed.
