The Tías City Council expresses its "strongest rejection and deep indignation" at the "regrettable events" that occurred last Friday during the First Regional football match between PDC 2016 and UD Valterra, held at the Manuel Arrocha García municipal field in Puerto del Carmen.
“The Tías City Council condemns any type of aggressive or unsportsmanlike conduct. Violence has no place in our society, and even less so in the sports field, which should be a space for respect, coexistence and acceptance of differences on an equal footing”, declares the mayor, José Juan Cruz.
Last Friday's sports day, “which should have been a day of healthy competition and sportsmanship, turned into an embarrassing spectacle marked by violence, involving players, fans and even Local Police officers.”
Tías Plays Fair
The Councilor for Sports, Ismael Cruz, explains that, in line with the municipal council's responsibility to eradicate violence in sports, “we have been working on the Tías Plays Fair project, an initiative that seeks to promote fair play and respect in local football.”
As part of this project, "training sessions have been carried out for players and the technical teams of the clubs, in addition to the implementation of a specific protocol to guarantee compliance with the Comprehensive Protection of Children and Adolescents against Violence Law”, says Cruz.
“Informative posters have also been placed in the sports facilities of Tías and Puerto del Carmen in the stands to remind fans of the importance of their behavior, which must generate a healthy and respectful environment during matches”, he adds.
From the Tías City Council, an appeal has been made to sports clubs, players, technical bodies and fans to join in this joint effort to promote a safe and healthy environment inside and outside sports facilities.
“It is everyone's responsibility to ensure that sport is a tool for union and personal development, free from any manifestation of violence”, explains the head of the Sports area.
