The Tías City Council has initiated the procedures to award two ordinary taxi licenses and six taxi licenses for adapted vehicles for People with Reduced Mobility (PRM), for discretionary transport in passenger cars.
Applications to obtain the award of these municipal licenses can be submitted from March 24 to April 22, both inclusive, and require compliance with various requirements established in the regulations, published on the electronic notice board of the City Council.
In the awarding of licenses, drivers who have professionally dedicated themselves to providing taxi service as salaried workers in the municipality of Tías will have preference, by strict and continuous justified seniority, and must have possession and validity of the driver's permit issued by the City Council, and registration and contribution in that capacity to Social Security.
The mayor of Tías, José Juan Cruz, recalls that this initiative is based on a socioeconomic study carried out in November 2023 to determine the appropriate number of taxi licenses in Tías. The mayor emphasizes that "this measure reflects the City Council's commitment to accessibility and the improvement of public transport service for all citizens."
The Councilor for Mobility and Urban Collective Transport, Sergio García, explains that "with the creation of these eight new taxi licenses, of which six are intended for vehicles adapted for people with reduced mobility (PRM), the municipality exceeds the minimum established by the regulations and reaches 10.25% of adapted vehicles in its fleet."
García refers to the Taxi Regulations in article 5 of Decree 74/2012, of August 2, which states that "at least five percent of taxi licenses must correspond to adapted vehicles, in accordance with the regulations that regulate the basic conditions of accessibility and non-discrimination for access and use of transport modes for people with disabilities."
