The plenary session of Tías approved this Tuesday, unanimously, the Action Plan for Climate and Sustainable Energy (PACES) of the municipality, drafted by the Technological Institute of the Canary Islands (ITC) and its seven annexes: Inventory of reference emissions, Economic assessment of the mitigation plan, Mitigation action sheets, Risk and vulnerability assessment studies, Adaptation action sheets, Sources of financing and Citizen participation.

After joining the initiative of the Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy, the City Council of Tías approved the documents that allow compliance with the climate sustainability objectives to reduce CO2 emissions "by 40% by 2030"

Tías is the first municipality in Lanzarote to have an Action Plan for Climate and Sustainable Energy. The City Council already has "37 projects in the area of energy efficiency, circular economy, mobility and water". Most have a license, some have financing and others are pending to achieve it, adding a total planned investment of 59 million euros. The Action Plan proposes "61 mitigation actions and some of them are already being implemented".

The Councilor for the Environment, Carmen Gloria Rodríguez, explains that the PACES "shows a commitment and a programmed time horizon and is structured in two large blocks".

"On the one hand, Mitigation, where the plan uses the results obtained from the Inventory of Reference Emissions to identify the best lines of action to reduce CO2 emissions," details the councilor, who also adds that on the other hand, there is Adaptation, "in which, based on the results of the Risk and Vulnerability Assessment Study, the necessary actions have been selected to improve resilience to climate change."
