The Tías City Council has approved this Monday a budget of 34,421.218,23 euros for this 2026, which represents 9.4% more than in the year 2025. Among the main axes are the strengthening of social policies, investments in infrastructure and public works, improvement of roads and LED lighting, tourism, employment and environmental sustainability.

The budget was approved this Monday in ordinary plenary session with the vote in favor of the government group, formed by PSOE and Unidas Sí Podemos, and the vote against the opposition. The mayor, José Juan Cruz, stated that “the budget is a living document, which will be incorporating Treasury surplus along with subsidies from other administrations to carry out works, so we expect to reach 50 million euros by the end of the year”.

José Juan Cruz Saavedra recalled that the revenue forecast of the Tías City Council budget “is not made with the registers, but with the average percentage of effective collection from the three previous years, which makes it a realistic document based on financial prudence and on the ultimate goal of improving the quality of life of the residents of the municipality”.

The Councilor for Economy and Finance, Tomás Silvera, highlighted that “we will continue promoting projects in the area of social exclusion, equality, family, active aging, minors at risk, LGTBI groups, etc., from a community and transversal intervention model through the execution of preventive and assistance actions”. He emphasized "the extensive activity of the community strategy" Conecta Tías and of the areas of Social Welfare and Family, directed by Nicolás Saavedra.

Silvera also pointed out the importance of employment plans in a tourist municipality with good economic expectations for this year. In 2025, employment agreements worth 1,153,405.55 euros were carried out, which resulted in the hiring of 62 unemployed people from the municipality. The unemployment rate in 2025 was 7% in 2025, the lowest figure in the last 20 years.

Regarding investments, 9,105,491 euros have been included received from the European FEDER funds of the Integrated Action Plans (PAI) of local entities within the framework of sustainable development and focusing on environmental, economic, and social aspects to revitalize urban areas and improve the lives of citizens.

Regarding Tourism, the main economic activity generator in the municipality, Tías has the Tourism Sustainability Plan 2021 Lanzarote, the energy of the Earth with a planned investment of 2,850.00 euros in the old town of La Tiñosa, a project processed by the Cabildo de Lanzarote. In addition, the III Modernization Plan of Puerto del Carmen is being processed, with 55 private and public actions.

The celebration this year of the 60th anniversary of Puerto del Carmen is highlighted, and under its umbrella, projects such as ZEConsciente, linked to the protected area of Gagafrecho, the Playa Chica diving station, and the Canary Green sustainability plan, are hosted, together with the Association of Tourist Municipalities of the Canary Islands (AMTC). Culture, Youth, Seniors, and Sports are some of the areas that continue to reactivate during this year.
