A platform is created to report that "they have not received the 12,000 euros of the subsidy promised by the Canarian Youth Mortgage"

Almost a hundred young people from the Canary Islands have created a platform to denounce the Young Canary Mortgage. Thus, they assure that this mortgage promised a subsidy of 12,000 euros for those who met the requirements, but "this aid has never arrived." "We feel deceived and scammed by the Government of the Canary Islands. Because we are also paying a very high Euribor, when right now it is very low."

This is explained by Juan Ionel Talens Morera, who requested this young mortgage in 2011. "I bought a house in San Bartolomé. I asked for 100,000 euros and I did it with the Government of the Canary Islands because it gave you more security. You gave them the documentation and they put you in contact with a bank in the Canary Islands, with which they had an agreement. Later, it was necessary to process the paperwork to access the subsidy," he explains.

This young man submitted all the documentation to receive the subsidy, but he is still waiting for it and now he knows "that it will not arrive". "First they told me that in six months they would tell me if they would give me the help or not. Time passed, and I went to the headquarters of the Youth Housing and nothing. I called by phone and they told me that it was being processed," he says.

But, recently, he received a letter, which took away all hope of collecting this promised money. "I received a letter from the Government of the Canary Islands that says that it has delivered the last subsidy and that there is no more money for more, that it is a matter of force majeure. So I'm left without it," he laments.

The subsidy, "what the ads highlighted"

And this young man decided to apply for the Young Canary Mortgage precisely because it included this subsidy. "I would not have been interested in taking this mortgage if it were not for the subsidy. It was the great boom of the mortgage, what was highlighted in all the ads. Many young people took this mortgage and furnished their houses, thinking that they were going to be given the subsidy and nothing has arrived," he insists.

Thus, he assures that only in 2011 a total of "777 people applied for this mortgage". "There are people who have been waiting for help since 2009 or 2010. There were budget items with this money that no one knows where they have gone. Almost no one has collected it," he insisted.

For this reason, this platform has been created, also to be able to inform other young people "of this unfortunate situation". "There will be many people who have no idea and who believe that the subsidy is about to arrive, but they will find a letter that says that there is no more money," he denounces.
