There will be no strike of cleaning ladies on December 24th and 25th

Comisiones Obreras confirmed this Friday the decision to suspend the strike of the cleaning ladies, called for December 24 and 25.

The union welcomes the commitment of the Labor Inspection to closely monitor each lodging establishment and verify whether or not they are complying with the Law on Prevention of Occupational Risks.

Hotel employers will be sanctioned if they do not evaluate workloads in both physical and psychological aspects.

Despite the suspension, the cleaning ladies themselves will decide on the 29th whether or not to maintain the planned stoppages on December 31st and January 1st.

The agreement was not reached with the employers

In Lanzarote, conversations with the Asolan employers' association were very advanced, in order to reach an agreement without the need for mediation from the Ministry of Labor, but according to sources of complete credibility told La Voz digital, the island's employers received pressure from the Federation of Businessmen of Hospitality and Tourism of the Province of Las Palmas, so that said agreement was not closed. Comisiones presumes that now the hotels and apartments will rush to get up to date with the Law in order not to be sanctioned.

Decrease in physical capacity

The Labor Inspection, dependent on the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, will carry out actions in the hospitality sector, for the cleaning ladies sector, given the existence of numerous dorsolumbar injuries, which are the cause of temporary and permanent disability processes.

About 2,000 women perform this hard work in Lanzarote. Statistics show that on average each cleaning lady is on leave for at least one month for each year worked.

Expectation at the airport

Another of the labor conflicts that affects the tourism industry is that of Iberia with its workers. The Strike Committee announced in past days "a blow" during the end of the year. It is unknown when it will be, but in light of the announcement there will be a move in Guacimeta.
