The teachers and parents of IES Zonzamas have once again criticized this Tuesday the attitude of the Ministry of Education of the Government of the Canary Islands regarding their rejection of the proposed changes from next year, accusing it of "hiding in silence and improvisation", so they ask for "answers now". They claim that, despite their multiple protests and writings submitted to the Ministry, they have not even been answered. For this reason, they point out that representatives of the educational community of this institute and also of the AMPA of the Los Geranios school registered a new letter this Monday requesting a meeting with the Deputy Minister of Education.
With this "urgent appointment" with the Deputy Minister, they intend to "clarify and respond once and for all to the demands raised". These demands have been claimed since the Ministry announced changes for the creation of the FP center in Zonzamas that will affect a total of 8 educational centers in Arrecife. Students, teachers and parents of this institute have staged various protests to show their rejection of the Education proposal and criticize the "improvisation".
They have also demanded other solutions and, together with the AMPA of Los Geranios, made an "alternative proposal". Despite this, they denounce that they still do not obtain a response. La Voz de Lanzarote has tried to obtain one from the island director of Education, Mario Pérez, and also through the press office of the Ministry. However, this medium has not received a response this Tuesday either about whether they will be granted that meeting with the Deputy Minister or whether Education plans to apply any of those alternatives they propose.
"Many unanswered questions"
Meanwhile, students, teachers and parents carried out a new protest act this weekend, an "informative walk" through the Calle Real de Arrecife, which was also joined by "members of other sympathetic educational communities". "With a green leaflet in hand, a symbol of quality public education, many questions were asked, still unanswered by the Ministry of Education of the Government of the Canary Islands", explain from the Zonzamas assembly.
"Why doesn't Arrecife still have an integrated FP center next year, and other centers in the capital are overcrowded? Why do students from the Nieves Toledo school change their institute, once yes and once no? (up to four times), why is the La Destila school now yes, now no, the works with more delay and the students more dispersed? (and nothing happens), why is no attention paid to more than 800 signatures collected in a week, which say 'no' to the reorganization proposed by the Ministry? Why are teachers deceived by saying that they have their place assured (assigned) and parents by saying that their children will go to another center attended by the same tutors? Why is the consensus reached between mothers and fathers of IES Zonzamas and Los Geranios school, who ask for an institute in Altavista, with high school, already?", they list.
"Lanzarote, until when?", the leaflet ended by asking. "Without losing the same attitude of dialogue and the search for consensus, we believe that it is enough. The Administration cannot hide in silence any longer", defends the assembly of teachers and parents of Zonzamas in the statement sent to the media this Tuesday. Thus, they point out that "after six writings presented without obtaining a response", they decided to carry out a new attempt and request that meeting.
