The Youth Counselor of the Cabildo, Patricia Pérez, has confirmed that the Papagayo Campsite is not ready to open during Holy Week. She has assured that "there will not be time" since "finishes were missing, putting up plates and many things that were now used to put". Added to this is that it is pending to close "all the paperwork that was pending from the work when it opened last year", according to Pérez.
The Counselor of the Corporation, in statements for Radio Lanzarote – Onda Cero, has regretted not having been able to arrive for Holy Week, but has affirmed that they are working "so that it can be opened before when it was opened in the summer period". She did not want to confirm the exact date "because in the end the same thing always happens to us, that we venture to say dates and then what we do is look bad, because many people plan to go and then it may or may not be".
Before the opening of the campsite in the summer of 2016, the Counselor commented that the works were finished and that it was only necessary to check the electrical installation. However, on this occasion she has added that "the paperwork and bureaucracy ends up making everything longer in time". The works of the Papagayo Camping Area, which began in February 2016, were awarded to the public company Tragsa for a value of 800,000 euros.
