The Yaiza opposition finds up to four negative reports on the construction of the Papagayo Arena

Last week, the Yaiza opposition managed to obtain the documentation on the urban licenses granted by the City Council. Their priority was the Papagayo Arena hotel file due to the resolution signed by Manuel Fajardo as accidental president in the Cabildo denying them the opening license. Since then, the three councilors of the Party of Independents of Lanzarote (PIL) with Gladys Acuña at the head have discovered up to four negative reports on this establishment.

The first report was sent on June 1, 1998 and is unfavorable because, among other things, it does not comply with both the height and the number of floors. The second document is from July 6, 2000 "and states that it does not comply with municipal urban regulations, specifically article 67.7, which is related to the maximum height and reiterates what was stated in 98", explained the PIL councilor on the Buenos Días program of Radio Lanzarote.

It did not adapt to the Las Coloradas Partial Plan

In addition, it specifies that it does not have emergency exits nor does it adapt to the regulations of the Las Coloradas Partial Plan. This fact was already reflected in another study dated the previous day. "Everything was happening in stages, they presented a chaotic project, the technicians reported unfavorably and they presented another one a little more corrected, so they were stringing things along", Gladys Acuña highlighted.

For its part, in 2001 the Ministry of Tourism of the Government of the Canary Islands showed an unfavorable report because the masonry and plumbing plans were not provided, which for the PIL councilor "is nonsense, that is, they were distracting wherever they could". Finally, on July 11, a first favorable report was issued but specifying that the intermediate passage between plots 1 and 2 was public, although it was finally designed to pass through the corridor and dependencies of the hotel, which meant losing its public character.

90 million for the license

The councilor of the Party of Independents of Lanzarote explained that finally, when asking the head of the technical office, they commented that 90 million were paid for that license, of which Yaiza charges approximately 6% between fees and taxes "although I am not sure of this percentage and I will specify it when I finish studying this specific hotel", commented Gladys Acuña.

The councilor also said that in the analysis of the documents, which they have to do transcribing with a pen because they cannot be photocopied, she has not yet seen the license. "Let them explain to me how it was built because this will take me at least another four weeks looking at papers because then Costas also gets involved and they tear down a couple of terraces that invade and I still think, from my point of view, that they did not meet the limit", explained Gladys Acuña.
